Florida House on Capitol Hill
"Florida House offers a ray of Sunshine State hospitality to all Floridians visiting Washington, D.C. Founded in 1973 by Rhea Chiles, Florida House serves as a goodwill embassy for Floridians in our nation's capital. Owned by the people of Florida, Florida House is - quite literally - a house. Headquartered in an historic, 1891 row house, Florida House sits atop Capitol Hill, rubbing shoulders with the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress and the Folger Shakespeare Library. Florida is the only state to have such a facility in D.C."

Puck Statue - Folger Shakespeake Library
Capitol Hill, Washington, DC
"To the west of the Folger, a statue of Shakespeare’s mischievous sprite Puck looks merrily toward the U.S. Capitol from above a fountain surrounded by plantings. The inscription below, “Lord, what fooles these mortals be!”, was chosen by chief architect Paul Cret and consulting architect Alexander Trowbridge from three Puck quotations supplied by Henry Folger. Cret used carved oak branches in the marble base to suggest the woods of Athens, where Puck plays his tricks in A Midsummer Night’s Dream"

Meridian Hill Park - thirteen-basin cascade fountain.
The fountains are designed with a recirculating water system which, through an elaborate series of pumps, supplies water to two large circular fountains on the upper level, and cascade found on the lower. Each cascade bowl flows to a larger bowl as they descend to the bottom. Water fills one bowl, overflowing into the next, until it reaches the large reflecting pool in the plaza.

April 1
Vietnam Women's Memorial (Washington, DC)
"A true sculpture in the round. The photos from Vietnam often included stacks of sandbags. It seemed natural for a nurse – in a moment of crisis – to be supported by sandbags as she serves as the life support for a wounded soldier lying across her lap. The standing woman looks up, in search of a med-i-vac helicopter or, perhaps, in search of help from God.
The kneeling figure has been called “the heart and soul” of the piece because so many vets see themselves in her.She stares at any empty helmet, her posture reflecting her despair, frustrations, and all the horrors of war. The soldier’s face is half-covered by a bandage, creating an anonymous figure with which veterans can identify."
