May 18 Picture

Folger Great Hall (Folger Shakespeare Library)
“Extending the Book” exhibit now showing, saw the exhibit, fabulous books.
“The concept of extra-illustration is simple: choose a book, identify significant people, places, and things in it, then insert pictures of them in appropriate places as visual annotations to the text. Each extra-illustrated book is thus the unique creation of a former owner. This exhibition examines the art and the practice of extra-illustration from its rise in the late eighteenth century through its decline over a hundred years later, with a special focus on Shakespeare’s works.”
