Hi! I am from the Washington D.C. Metro area and came into Harrisburg today to shoot some photography around sunset time along the Susquehanna River, walking down Pine Street & coming back up N. Front St towards Walnut St and that’s when this happened:
As I am walking down Front St, my peripheral vision saw a man covered w/ a white blanket sitting on a bench to my right. I didn’t pay much attention and kept on walking, only realizing a few seconds later, the man w/ the white blanket had started following me so I walked towards your enormous Christmas tree with white lights in front of the Walnut Street Bridge walk path. The man continues to follow me, so I got kind of panicky and instead of turning towards Walnut Street, I turned towards the walk path on the Walnut Street Bridge (keep in mind there is no one in my line of sight & I am alone, on the bridge) and the man (w/ the white blanket) continued following me so I kind of started power walking and then the man started yelling out to me (as I’m on the Walnut Street Bridge now), ------------ “Heeeyy… !! Where are you going … Come back Here… You come back here bitch …. (Muttering to himself) “ …Well then go jump into the river …”, ------------------ at this point, I am a quarter ways onto the Walnut St Bridge and in looking back (towards the Christmas tree & crazy man w/ the white blanket), I realize the man is still there.
So I called 911 apparently reaching the Dauphin County, Harrisburg Police Bureau, explaining my situation to them (that I’m stuck on the Walnut Street Bridge) & I wanted a police escort to my car parked on Walnut Street, afraid, b/c of the crazy man with the white blanket. (it's dark & NO ONE is around) So the police dispatcher guy said he’d send someone there but wasn’t sure how soon someone could be there. We hung up. I waited …. Still standing on the bridge, waiting … Waiting for someone to show up… A runner passes me. A bicyclist pedals by. I’m waiting. So I went ahead and started walking off the bridge and when I came to the Christmas tree I called 911 and cancelled my police escort request. And I walked up Walnut to my car.
Then I saw it, 123 Walnut Street. The Harrisburg Police Bureau, less than a block away from where I was on the Walnut Street Bridge a few seconds ago, cold, a bit frightened b/c of the crazy man, I had called the “Police” and no one had come. So …
**I guess I am curious – Why, could no one step out from 123 Walnut to step over to the Walnut Street Bridge to answer a distress call from a visitor to Harrisburg????** (I mean what IF something HAD happened ...)
That’s all. Thanks for reading…
p.s. To anyone else able to answer my last question, feel free to share your thoughts on my question.
